Ongoing changes in the scientific and political landscape require facilitators capable of enhancing and translating the impact of research on society. Our aim at ASTP is to improve the quality of the impact that public research has on the economy and society.
In the 20 years since the founding of ASTP, the knowledge transfer landscape has evolved and continues to change at a dramatic pace. It is the role of ASTP to offer us, the knowledge transfer professionals, a home base and network across Europe in order to best fulfill our professional roles. Knowledge exchange between our members is core to our values: “for members by members” drives and shapes our momentum.
We, therefore, rise to the challenge, offering even better information, digital materials, and highly topical events which allow members to meet and exchange ideas. I feel it is essential that the strength of the knowledge transfer sector, and the voices of the people working in it, are recognised by policymakers across nations and in the wider European context. Over the previous years, ASTP has worked with to strengthen national associations, and with international bodies participating in discussions at a European policy level; there is still plenty of work to be done.
Finally, I would like to encourage all members, and especially those of you from the younger generation of KT professionals, to get involved and help to shape the future of ASTP. Your involvement, on a committee or within a special interest group, will have a significant impact on the capacity of the organisation to grow, to reach more people, and will help build a sustainable ASTP for the future. This is an exciting time to lead such a dynamic community and I am elated to be chosen to lead ASTP for the coming period. Please reach out to me, any Board members or Laura MacDonald at HQ if you would like to volunteer or have any questions.
Alternatively, I look forward to meeting you at one of our various conferences, meetings, or another event to discuss the advancement of our home base, ASTP.
