In September 2020, Pablo was appointed Deputy Director of Technology Transfer at OTT-SSPA, where he leads the definition, coordination, and strategic management of actions in the field of innovation, IPR protection, tech transfer, and entrepreneurship in the AHS.
Pablo is an expert in Business Development, Technology Transfer, and Intellectual Property with over 11 years of extensive experience in these fields, both in the public and private sectors. He has expertise in managing new in-licensing/out-licensing opportunities, conducting market analysis and sales forecasts, project valuation, drafting and negotiating collaboration and license agreements, providing legal advice, and training and mentoring researchers. Additionally, he has experience in developing research projects funded by industry or through public-private funding calls (regional, national, and international), as well as establishing new technology-based companies (spin-offs). He has partially passed the EQE and possesses broad knowledge in managing patent, trademark, and domain portfolios, including drafting and technically prosecuting patent applications and preparing patentability reports.
Pablo worked in the Business Development and Intellectual Property Departments of the biopharmaceutical company Noscira (Grupo Zeltia-Pharmamar) for five years (2008-2013). At Noscira, he managed the out-licensing process of two compounds in clinical development and was involved in defining BD and IP strategy, managing the company’s patent portfolio, reviewing agreements and publications, and conducting communication activities.
Subsequently, he joined the Fundación Pública Andaluza para la Gestión de la Investigación en Salud de Sevilla (FISEVI), a public foundation that manages health research carried out in centers under the Andalusian Health System (AHS) in Seville, as a Technology Transfer Manager (2013-2020). He was part of the Technology Transfer Office of the Andalusian Public Health System (OTT-SSPA). Here, he led the development of an active strategy on tech transfer and business development in public hospitals and research centers in Seville, including managing an IP portfolio with over 40 active patent families and more than 100 patent families prosecuted, strategic contact with the business sector, support for entrepreneurial activities, and researcher training. Additionally, since 2019, he has been a teaching collaborator at the Biomedical Research Master's program at the University of Seville.
Due to his tenure at OTT-SSPA, Pablo has led the filing of over 300 patent applications/copyrights, managed over 140 collaboration and 35 license agreements with industry, raised more than 11 million euros in public-private collaborations, and 2 million euros in specific calls for innovation and tech transfer, as well as providing support for the creation of several spin-offs.
