About Spin-off SIG

The objective of the SIG is to serve as a platform for in-depth discussions on supporting and nurturing spin-offs emerging from universities and research centres. This SIG aims to explore and share successful support models from across Europe, providing members with role models and inspiration for enhancing entrepreneurial efforts in their institutions.

Who Should Join?

This SIG is ideal for professionals from Entrepreneurship Centres, Knowledge Transfer Offices, and any organisation actively involved in the entrepreneurial ecosystem at universities and research centres. ASTP members with a keen interest in the practicalities of creating and supporting academic spin-offs (including aspects of IP rights transfer, compensation models such as royalties, equity, and phantom shares) are encouraged to join.

Why Join the Spin-off SIG?

Members of this SIG will gain access to an invaluable network of experts and thought leaders from across Europe, facilitating conversations that are as insightful as they are inspiring. Members can expect to expand their knowledge, exchange ideas, and benefit from exposure to a range of start-up support models and best practices.

What Will the Spin-off SIG Offer?

The SIG will host bi-monthly meetings and webinars, conduct surveys, compile case studies, and develop digital resources to support members’ efforts.

Meeting Schedule

The Spin-off SIG will convene monthly for coordinators and every two months for all members, although final schedules will be set according to the group’s preference. Together, we aim to create a robust resource for spin-off support across Europe.

Get Involved!

We invite all ASTP members with an interest in fostering innovation through spin-off to volunteer and become part of this exciting new initiative, either as SIG coordinators or members. Communicate your interest or suggestions to Arlyta Wibowo-Kruzinga at arlyta.wibowo-kruzinga@astp4kt.eu.

Join the Spin-off SIG and contribute to shaping the future of academic entrepreneurship!

Tea with ASTP: Policies for Spin-out

Most KTOs work with the spin-out route as a way of commercialising inventions from our research institutions: there are different models and policies in place at different KTOs. Marjan Kraak (Head of Spin-Off Group, ETH Transfer at ETH Zurich) take us through ETH Zurich's models and processes.
