RTTP: Professional Recognition for Those Who Turn Research into Impact

Every day, knowledge and technology transfer professionals make decisions that shape whether research becomes real-world impact or stays on paper. From structuring collaborations and negotiating licences to guiding spin-outs and protecting IP, this work requires judgement, credibility, and professional responsibility.

The Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP) designation is how the global profession formally recognises those who consistently deliver that standard of practice. RTTP is not about potential. It is about demonstrated professional performance.

RTTP is awarded by the Alliance of Technology Transfer Professionals (ATTP), the international body that sets professional standards for the field. As a founding member of ATTP, ASTP supports RTTP as the benchmark for professional recognition in knowledge and technology transfer. RTTP holders form a growing international community of practitioners whose work meets an agreed global standard and who are trusted to handle complex negotiations, public–private partnerships, commercialisation pathways, and research-driven innovation.

RTTP is designed for professionals who are already doing this work. If you are negotiating agreements, supporting spin-outs, building industry partnerships, managing IP or research contracts, or delivering measurable research impact, you are likely already operating at RTTP level. RTTP recognises practitioners with at least three years’ experience in knowledge or technology transfer and a proven record of real outcomes, not exams or theory.

As part of the application, candidates also demonstrate their ongoing professional development through 60 Continuing Education points. These points reflect the training and learning that most ASTP members already invest in as part of their careers. CE points can be earned through accredited training and masterclasses, ASTP courses and events, and programmes recognised by ATTP. Many ASTP learning activities already count directly towards RTTP, allowing members to build both their skills and their professional recognition in parallel.

Applications for the next RTTP cohort close on 5 February 2025. Each cohort becomes part of a growing international reference group for the profession, made up of practitioners recognised for the quality, responsibility, and impact of their work.

If you are ready for your professional contribution to be formally recognised, this is your opportunity to join the global RTTP community. Learn more and start your application through ATTP’s RTTP guidance. Your work turns ideas into impact. RTTP ensures it does not go unnoticed.
