The Open Discovery Innovation Network (ODIN) is a Danish initiative that brings universities and life-science companies together to develop precompetitive research projects. Unlike many traditional university–industry collaborations, ODIN projects are carried out without intellectual property rights on the project results, which are instead shared openly.
This presentation will introduce the ODIN model, explain how collaborations and projects are developed, and describe how the programme works in practice. It will provide an example of an alternative approach to university–industry collaboration and consider where an open, precompetitive model can complement more traditional knowledge-transfer activities.
