Discover the IMPAC3T-IP Toolbox

Licensing research outputs today requires more flexible, inclusive approaches than traditional patent-focused models allow. The IMPAC3T-IP Toolbox has been developed to meet that need, combining document-based resources (such as templates, checklists, and model clauses) with digital tools, including AI-driven assistants, licensing aggregation platforms, and a tool finder engine that helps users navigate complex decision points.

The Toolbox is organised into three scenario-based sub-toolboxes:

  • Classical Plus – for licensing non-traditional intangible assets such as AHSS outputs, datasets, digital content and creative works.
  • Crisis – to support rapid or equitable access licensing in emergency situations or where structural access barriers persist.
  • Co-creation – for collaborative innovation models where ownership, future use and shared licensing pathways must be negotiated clearly.

This approach, combining structured documentation with adaptive digital tools, ensures that Tech Transfer Offices, Public Research Organisations, SMEs, policy actors and other stakeholders can streamline licensing processes, reduce negotiation friction and increase real-world uptake of research outputs across sectors.

To ensure the Toolbox is not just accessible but actively used to its full potential, the IMPAC3T-IP Academy™ acts as a dedicated training and certification pathway. With online and in-person sessions being held throughout 2026, the Academy™ will:

  • Provide hands-on training, scenario workshops and expert-led sessions.
  • Enable participants to earn a recognised certification, contributing to formal professional development frameworks.
  • Build a community of certified practitioners and future trainers who can champion new licensing approaches within their organisations.

Upcoming training session dates:

  • 17 April 2026, Rome
  • 30 April 2026, Dublin
  • 20 May 2026, Bucharest (held alongside the ASTP Annual Event)
  • May 2026 (date TBC), Warsaw
  • 8 June 2026, Newport (UK)
  • June 2026 (date TBC), Barcelona
