Anastasia Tsagkarakou
Head of the General Directorate of Agricultural Research / Head of TTO
Anastasia Tsagkarakou is an agronomist specialising in crop production, with a PhD in Population Biology from the University of Montpellier II, France. Since 2001, she has been a researcher at the Hellenic Agricultural Organization – ELGO-DIMITRA, at the Institute of Olive, Subtropical Plants and Viticulture, and from 2014 to 2021 she served as Director of Research and Head of the Institute.
Since 2022, she has been Head of the General Directorate of Agricultural Research at ELGO-DIMITRA and a member of the Agricultural Research Committee, overseeing the organisation’s 11 institutes, where a major part of the country’s applied agricultural research is carried out. She is also Head of the newly established Technology Transfer Office, playing a key role in linking research with production and business innovation. At ELGO-DIMITRA, new plant varieties are developed, and the associated rights are commercially exploited through collaborations with companies, highlighting the practical and economic value of agricultural research.
She has an extensive scientific and administrative track record, with participation in numerous collaborations with companies and other organisations, while also maintaining a strong international presence through important roles in European scientific and research bodies.
