Sara completed her PhD in Physics in 1998 and her Habilitation in Experimental Physics in 2005. After more than ten years in research, she moved into the field of Intellectual Property and qualified as a Registered Technology Transfer Professional in January 2012. She has been, and continues to be, a member of several technology transfer expert groups in Austria and Germany, and has served as an innovation expert on a number of EU-funded projects.

With more than twenty years’ experience in knowledge transfer, particularly in working with companies and creating and supporting spin-offs, Sara has been Head of the Transfer Center Science–Economy–Society at the University of Innsbruck since 2016. The Transfer Center acts as a gateway to the university’s extensive knowledge base and aims to stimulate collaboration between academic staff and external partners. It supports collaborative research projects across all scientific fields, runs an incubator together with the Tyrolean Chamber of Commerce, offers a range of formats to foster an entrepreneurial mindset among students and faculty, provides support to researchers wishing to found a spin-off, and undertakes a variety of public engagement activities to create wider impact.
