Marilisa Boffo
Associate Professor
Marilisa Boffo, PhD, is Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology and Digital Behavioural Health at Erasmus University Rotterdam. Her work focuses on the design, evaluation, and implementation of evidence-based interventions for mental health and behaviour change, spanning digital and blended formats. By integrating clinical psychology, behavioural science, and human-centred design, she translates scientific insights into engaging, scalable
solutions that can be adopted in real-world settings, from universal wellbeing promotion to targeted support and treatment-adjacent approaches. In addition to her research, Boffo holds key leadership roles at Erasmus University
Rotterdam. She is Academic Leader of the university-wide Student Wellbeing Programme, shaping an integrated, stepped-care ecosystem for student support. She is also co-Principal Investigator of ROOM to grow, a student wellbeing and personal development app launched in 2024 and used by more than 6,000 students. A central theme in her research is the meaningful and ethical use of AI in mental health. As a member of the Dutch AlgoSoc consortium, she studies how automated systems shape values such as autonomy, privacy transparency, and fairness. In parallel, she leads major gambling-harm prevention initiatives through academia–industry collaboration and community-based programmes in the Rotterdam region.
