Second Edition of the Handbook for National Associations in Knowledge Transfer Is Now Available

We are pleased to announce the release of the second edition of the Handbook for National Associations in Knowledge Transfer, developed by our National Association Advisory Committee (NAAC) as a practical and community-driven resource for strengthening knowledge transfer ecosystems across Europe and beyond.

This updated edition reflects the continued growth and maturity of the NAAC community, which today brings together 40 National Associations representing 33 countries. Through collaboration, peer learning, and exchange of experiences, the NAAC continues to support the professionalisation and visibility of the knowledge transfer profession internationally.

The handbook shares practical experiences, reflections, and examples from national associations operating in diverse innovation ecosystems. It explores topics including:

  • founding and managing National Associations
  • governance and organisational structures
  • membership models
  • funding and sustainability
  • training and professional development
  • policy engagement and ecosystem collaboration

The second edition also includes:

  • expanded insights into governance, funding models, training, and policy engagement
  • reflections on emerging ecosystems and community building
  • updated association profiles and ecosystem overview
  • international perspectives through the introduction of NAAC Global Guests

In her preface, Laura Spinardi, Chair of the NAAC and ASTP Vice President, describes the publication as “a collective achievement” that reflects the diversity, creativity, and shared commitment of the KT community.

Since its creation in 2014, the NAAC has evolved into a vibrant platform connecting national KT communities, helping associations learn from one another while supporting stronger collaboration between national and European innovation initiatives.

The handbook demonstrates that while National Associations differ in structure, maturity, and resources, they share a common ambition: strengthening knowledge transfer and maximising the societal and economic impact of research and innovation

The Handbook for National Associations in Knowledge Transfer – Second Edition 2026 is available in electronic format through ASTP.
