Unlocking Europe’s Innovation Potential:…
ASTP's EU Committee reflects on the relevance of the European Strategy on Research and Technology Infrastructures.
The formal signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Alliance of Technology Transfer Professionals (ATTP) represents a pivotal milestone for the global knowledge transfer (KT) profession. For ASTP, as Europe’s largest KT association and a key ATTP member, this agreement unlocks significant strategic value by creating a globally structured yet locally relevant platform for capacity building. The prevailing mood is one of professional optimism, with expectations of accelerated development across the sector.
The core objective of the MoU is ambitious: to rapidly strengthen both institutional and individual capacity in IP commercialisation and technology transfer, with particular attention to the needs of developing and transition economies. The collaboration combines WIPO’s extensive global expertise with ATTP’s authority in professional standards, marking an important step towards formalising and scaling the KT profession worldwide.
The principal value for the KT community lies in the practical mechanism established by the MoU:
For ASTP members, the synergy created by the MoU is a clear advantage. It transforms what can often be a complex pathway to professional accreditation into a structured, institutionally supported system. Through this inter-institutional collaboration, ASTP members gain improved access to high-quality, accredited professional development that is both globally recognised and locally relevant. This formalised platform is expected to catalyse a new wave of professional excellence, strengthening the European TT community while contributing meaningfully to global capacity-building objectives.
