We are witnessing a shift from a purely economic focus toward the inclusion of societal impact. However, this shift brings significant challenges in measuring and managing knowledge and technology transfer projects.

We discuss a different perspective—one that moves beyond assessing individual actors or organisations and instead emphasises knowledge flows within innovation ecosystems. If knowledge transfer is our primary concern, why aren’t we focusing more on how knowledge moves, evolves, and creates value across interconnected stakeholders?

In this session, we will explore how knowledge flows shape ecosystems and drive impact beyond financial metrics. Through a mix of theoretical insights and real-world cases—including our student incubator programs and the work of non-traditional impact scholars—we will examine new ways to understand, measure, and manage knowledge and technology transfer in practice. After all, if we readily track the flow of money to understand economic value, shouldn’t we be just as intentional in tracking the flow of knowledge to understand impact?

I strongly recommend the course, even if you are not going to set-up an office but you are part of the team that wants to change or improve how technology transfer is done at your institution.
