The third instalment of the "From Research to Development – Paths to Cross the Valley of Death in Life Sciences" series highlights the crucial role of EIT Health in helping life science innovations bridge the gap between research and market.

In this session, Shona D’Arcy will present EIT Health the organisation and a wider discussion on the challenges and opportunities for university spin outs. EIT Health is the largest health innovation network in the world with over 200 partners and 5000 startups supported over the last 10 years. Shona will cover the EIT Health and wider EU programs. Shona has added insight into the spinout journey having been involved at all stages in several healthtech startups, both University and bootstrapped.

In this session we’ll cover:

  • The typical university spin out journey and how this is changing
  • The unique challenges of turning academics into entrepreneurs and how to support them
  • The differences we see between university spin outs and bootstrapped/expertise lead startups.
